Urtijëi

The town stretches along the Gardena Valley at 1,230 meters elevation, surrounded by the Dolomites mountains and dense alpine forests.

From 1860 to 1914, the construction of a major road connecting Val Gardena to railroad networks transformed St. Ulrich into a center for woodcarving and tourism.

The Museum Gherdëina preserves the local heritage through collections of wooden sculptures, geological findings, and archaeological artifacts from the Dolomites region.

St. Ulrich provides direct access to multiple ski slopes in winter and maintains numerous hiking trails through the Dolomites during summer months.

The population maintains a strong Ladin linguistic identity, with 84 percent of residents speaking this ancient Romance language as their primary means of communication.
