Bruneck, Medieval town in Pustertal Valley, South Tyrol, Italy

The town spreads across six districts at 838 meters elevation, where the Tauferer Ahrntal and Gadertal valleys meet at the Ahr and Rienz rivers.

Bishop Bruno von Kirchberg established Bruneck in 1250 by constructing a castle, which initiated the development of trade routes between Augsburg and Venice.

The population of 17,000 residents communicates primarily in German at 82 percent, Italian at 15 percent, and Ladin at 2 percent of speakers.

International rail connections link Bruneck to Italian, Austrian, and German cities, with direct access to the Kronplatz cable car from multiple stations.
