Vinci is a municipality in Tuscany that spreads across the slopes of Montalbano and is surrounded by terraced vineyards and olive groves. The almond-shaped historic center sits on a hillside and is supported by stone walls that follow the terrain.
German troops occupied the municipality in September 1943 following the Cassibile Armistice. British units liberated the town on September 2, 1944, ending the occupation.
The Museo Leonardiano displays models and reconstructions of Leonardo's machines, including flying devices and technical instruments that visitors can examine up close. The exhibition makes the practical applications of his sketches understandable and brings his inventions into tangible form.
The main town lies about 30 kilometers west of Florence and is easily reachable by regional road. The municipality has two sports facilities, one of them in Petroio near Sovigliana and an older one in Ripalta.
Every July, the traditional Tenzon di Palla takes place, with two districts competing in a historical football match during the town fair. The tournament follows old rules and draws locals as well as guests who watch the spectacle.
