Leonardo Museum, Technology museum in Vinci, Italy
The Leonardo Museum is a technology museum in Vinci housed in two historic buildings: the Palazzina Uzielli and the medieval Castello dei Conti Guidi. It displays over 60 reconstructed models based on Leonardo's drawings, representing his inventions across machinery, textile work, timekeeping, human anatomy, military engineering, bridges, and flight.
The museum was founded in 1953 following a donation of reconstructed models by IBM to honor Leonardo's contributions to science and art. The two buildings themselves have deep roots in the region: the Castello was once a noble family's seat, while the Palazzina was later added as a modern exhibition space.
The museum is named after Leonardo da Vinci, whose thoughts on machines and nature become visible through its displays. The exhibition spaces show how his sketches were transformed into physical models that help visitors grasp his ideas.
The museum is fully accessible with wheelchair facilities throughout all areas. The displays are clearly marked and allow visitors to navigate the various topics at their own pace.
The museum showcases not just static models but digital animations and interactive applications that help visitors grasp Leonardo's complex inventions. In the castle's video room, you can watch documentaries about his mathematical and scientific work.
