San Liberatore a Maiella

The abbey features a white facade with balanced volumes, three naves separated by seven round arcades, and a square bell tower with mullioned windows.

Founded in 856 as part of Montecassino abbey, the structure was rebuilt in 1007 by monk Theobald following destruction from an earthquake in 990.

The interior contains thirteenth-century frescoes depicting saints and religious figures, along with geometric mosaic floors dating from the 1200s.

The abbey maintains regular visiting hours and provides guided tours explaining its architectural elements and religious significance within the Abruzzo region.

The bell tower rises across three levels with different window styles: single-light, mullioned, and trifore, creating a progressive lightness as it extends upward.
