Santuario di San Camillo de Lellis

Santuario di San Camillo de Lellis is a shrine in Bucchianico with a rectangular layout, neoclassical facade, and a bell tower featuring curved sides and a pointed spire. Construction started in the early 17th century after Saint Camillus died and took four decades due to limited financial resources. The completion of the sanctuary reflected the gradual support from worshippers and the local community over time.

The sanctuary displays frescoes showing the life of Saint Camillus and honors other revered religious figures through its artistic decoration. The artwork in the sacristy helps visitors understand the spiritual tradition and local devotion connected to this place.

The shrine is located in the town center and is easily accessible on foot, with enough space to explore the interior and view the artwork. Visitors should wear appropriate clothing when visiting and respect the quiet atmosphere of the place, especially during services or prayer times.

The shrine preserves a rare relic: the heart of Saint Camillus, along with a torch that symbolizes charity. These objects were placed in the crypt in the early 20th century and represent what the saint stood for in his work with the poor and sick.
