Museum of Biomedical Sciences, Chieti, University museum of biomedical sciences in central Chieti, Italy.
The Museum of Biomedical Sciences is located in a neoclassical building on Piazza Trento e Trieste and houses medical instruments, anatomical models, and scientific specimens. The collection also includes mummies and findings from local excavations that show how medical knowledge developed over time.
The institution was founded in 1994 at Gabriele d'Annunzio University and began in a different building before moving to its present location. The collection grew under the direction of Professor Luigi Capasso, who systematically brought together medical artifacts.
The museum displays objects that tell the story of how medicine and scientific knowledge developed over time. Visitors can see how people understood the human body and treated illnesses in different periods.
The collection is open Tuesday through Friday from 9 until about half past seven in the evening, while weekend visits start from 3 in the afternoon. Visitors should check exact hours before arriving and plan time to walk through the different exhibition areas.
The collection maintains carefully controlled environments for delicate objects and displays research findings that came from scientific work on local discoveries. This makes the museum a place where visitors can see not just displayed pieces but also understand the work behind them.
