Caltabellotta

Caltabellotta is a small commune perched on a hilltop in the Free municipal consortium of Agrigento in Sicily. The settlement spreads across the slopes with an old village core of narrow streets winding around the mountain's summit.

The commune was established during Norman rule and played a role in Sicily's medieval conflicts. Over the centuries it experienced economic shifts that shaped the lives of its inhabitants.

This place is best explored on foot since the streets are narrow and some steep. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes and allow time to navigate the different levels of the town.

The church at the summit is visible from everywhere in the village and serves as a visual anchor for orientation. This natural reference point makes it nearly impossible to lose your way completely in the winding streets.
