Palma di Montechiaro, Commune in Province of Agrigento, Italy

Palma di Montechiaro is a commune in the Province of Agrigento in Sicily, situated about 165 meters above sea level. The town spreads across typical Sicilian terrain with characteristic southern Italian features and is easily reached from other nearby settlements in the region.

The settlement was renamed in 1863 to honor the Chiaramonte family, who built and controlled a fortress nearby. This name change marked a turning point in local identity and acknowledged the influence of this noble family on the region.

The town honors Maria Santissima del Rosario as its protector, and each September the streets fill with celebrations dedicated to this patron. These religious processions and gatherings shape community life and show how central this devotion is to local identity.

Visitors will find a small commune with basic services and good connections to neighboring towns across the region. Getting around is straightforward via regional road networks that make it easy to reach nearby settlements or travel onward to other areas.

Archaeological digs near the town have uncovered remains from the Magna Graecia period, telling the story of ancient Greek settlements in the area. These findings show that this place was already an important location in ancient times.
