Thapsos, Archaeological site at Priolo Gargallo, Sicily, Italy
The settlement contains remains of circular huts, rectangular buildings with courtyards, and apsidal structures connected by ancient roadways at Magnisi peninsula.
The site was continuously inhabited from the 15th to 9th century BC, serving as a camping ground for Athenians during their siege of Syracuse.
Excavations have revealed numerous bronze weapons, Baltic amber pieces, glass paste necklaces, and gold pendants indicating substantial trade connections.
The artifacts discovered at Thapsos are displayed in the Paolo Orsi Regional Archaeological Museum in Syracuse, which maintains regular visiting hours.
The area features a circular tower constructed by British forces in 1806 to guard Augusta Bay against potential Napoleonic naval attacks.
