Misterbianco, Administrative commune in Metropolitan City of Catania, Italy
Misterbianco is a commune in the Metropolitan City of Catania situated at about 213 meters above sea level across a considerable area. The settlement lies a few kilometers west of Catania and serves today as an economic center for various manufacturing sectors.
The original monastery and settlement were completely buried during a Mount Etna eruption in 1669. The location was then rebuilt in the Milicia area and gradually developed again.
The Mother Church shows architecture from after 1669 with classical elements inside and in its dome, while the facade keeps medieval influences. This religious building still shapes the town center and serves as a gathering place for the community.
The place contains several industrial zones with furniture manufacturing, pasta production, and metalworking where many residents work. As a visitor, keep in mind that this is a commercial area not primarily oriented toward tourism.
The name comes from the Latin Monasterium Album, referring to the Benedictine monastery where monks wore white robes. This etymological origin remains embedded in the place name today.
