Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art of Trento and Rovereto, Modern and contemporary art museum in Rovereto, Italy
The Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art of Trento and Rovereto is an art museum in Rovereto housed inside a circular building with a glass and steel dome. The dome spans the central plaza and allows daylight to enter the exhibition spaces.
The Province of Trentino founded the museum in 1987 as an autonomous institution. It moved into the new building in 2002 after previously operating at Palazzo delle Albere in Trento.
The permanent collection contains 20,000 artworks, including significant pieces from Giorgio de Chirico, Carlo Carrà, Mario Sironi, and Fortunato Depero from the 20th century avant-garde movements.
The museum sits at Corso Angelo Bettini 43 and welcomes visitors from Tuesday through Sunday between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. On Fridays the rooms remain open until 9 p.m.
The complex links three locations together: the main site in Rovereto, the Casa d'Arte Futurista Depero, and the Galleria Civica in Trento. Mario Botta designed the building in Rovereto, with the round shape reminiscent of a tower.
