Teatro Zandonai, Historic theatre in Rovereto, Italy
Teatro Zandonai is a classical theatre with around 470 seats arranged with velvet chairs and multiple boxes throughout its interior. The space retains elegant architectural details typical of a traditional opera house from its period.
The building opened in 1784 and went through significant changes over time, including use as a horse stable during World War I. The municipality acquired it in 1920 and completed renovations before reopening it in 1924 under its new name.
The venue is named after composer Riccardo Zandonai, and his works are performed here throughout the year. It serves as a cultural hub where locals and visitors gather to experience opera, dance, and theatrical productions.
Access to the venue may be challenging for people with limited mobility since accessibility features are limited. Check ahead about which services like the bar and wardrobe are available, as they do not operate during every performance.
When it reopened in 1924, a work by the composer after whom the theatre is now named was performed for the inaugural event. This choice symbolized the beginning of a new chapter dedicated to this important Italian composer's legacy.
