Castel Sant'Angelo, Mausoleum in Rome
Castel Sant'Angelo, also known as the Mausoleum of Hadrian, is a towering cylindrical building in Parco Adriano, Rome, Italy.
Originally commissioned by the Roman Emperor Hadrian as a mausoleum for himself and his family, it was later used by the popes as a fortress and castle.
The Castel Sant'Angelo is depicted in the opera 'Tosca' by Puccini, where it is the setting for the final act.
Today, the structure is a museum that offers panoramic views of Rome.
The building was once the tallest in Rome.
