Terrasini, Coastal commune in Metropolitan City of Palermo, Italy.
Terrasini is a coastal town between mountains and the Gulf of Castellammare in the Metropolitan City of Palermo, extending along curved shorelines with numerous bays. The commune rises about 32 meters above sea level and features varied coastal landscapes.
The settlement grew from the medieval village of Favarotta, whose name comes from the Arabic word 'Fawar' meaning spring. King Ferdinand II merged it with Terrasini as a single commune in 1836.
The Civic Museum in Palazzo Aumale displays three collections focused on ethnography, archaeology, and natural history of the region. Visitors can explore the local past and environment through these different viewpoints.
The town lies about 30 kilometers west of Palermo and is easily reached via the main motorway between Palermo and Trapani. Its proximity to the international airport makes it a convenient destination for air travelers.
Local craftspeople continue making quartare clay vessels using ancient techniques, a tradition maintained for centuries in this coastal area. This handicraft shows the deep connection to Mediterranean pottery methods still alive here.
