Museo Regionale di Storia Naturale e mostra permanente del carretto siciliano

The Regional Museum of Natural History is housed in Palazzo d'Aumale near Praiola beach and displays collections of natural objects and traditional Sicilian carts. The rooms show taxidermied animals, fossils, mineral specimens, and fully restored carts with hand-painted decorations.

The building was constructed in the 19th century by a French nobleman who established an industrial operation on the property. It was later transformed into a cultural institution to preserve regional natural specimens and traditional crafts.

The cart exhibition shows how these vehicles shaped daily life and local trade across Sicily. These handcrafted transports reflect the community's deep respect for artistic detail and practical craftsmanship.

The museum is located along Lungomare Peppino Impastato, a waterfront promenade with beach access. Visit in the morning when crowds are lighter, as the rooms are compact and fill up easily.

The carts display complex handcrafted techniques like woodcarving and gradient decorations that varied by region across Sicily. These details reveal how artisans embedded their local identity into every vehicle.
