Montagna Longa

Montagna Longa is a mountain summit in the Conca d'Oro region that rises between the municipalities of Cinisi and Carini in Palermo province. The peak serves as a natural geographic divider and offers views across the surrounding terrain.

Archaeological remains near the summit reveal traces of an ancient Carthaginian watchtower that once stood here. The location held strategic importance for controlling the surrounding territory in classical antiquity.

A memorial cross at the summit honors the 115 victims of the Alitalia Flight 112 disaster that occurred here in 1972. This site holds deep meaning for local residents who periodically visit to pay respects.

The main trail starts from Santa Venera forest and climbs through Mediterranean terrain for several kilometers to reach the summit. Visitors should come prepared for exposed conditions, as the peak offers limited natural shelter from sun and wind.

Broadcasting equipment is maintained at the peak by television networks for regional signal transmission. The mountain also serves the Sicilian Forest Corps as a vantage point for monitoring wildfire activity across the territory.
