Bocconi University, Private university in Milan, Italy
Bocconi University is a private higher education institution in Milan specializing in economics, finance, law, management, political science, and data science. The campus consists of seven buildings near Parco Ravizza and attracts students from around the world.
Ferdinando Bocconi founded the institution in 1902 with the aim of preparing young people for business and commerce, drawing inspiration from teaching methods at the École Supérieure in Antwerp. At first, the establishment collaborated with the Polytechnic University of Milan before developing into an independent institution.
The name honors Ferdinando Bocconi, a Milanese merchant who founded the institution in memory of his son Luigi, who died in the First Italo-Ethiopian War. The campus hosts an active community where students from over one hundred countries gather, shaping daily life through discussions, presentations, and collaborative projects.
Seven residence halls on campus accommodate around two thousand students, creating a shared living environment close to classrooms. A specialized library with extensive holdings in economics and business administration is available for research, complemented by numerous study spaces for individual work or group projects.
Students maintain customs around certain entrance doors at the institution, as some doorways are considered favorable for graduation while others are avoided. These beliefs have been passed down through generations and now form a firm part of daily student life on campus.
