Rocca Pisana

Rocca Pisana is a Renaissance villa built on the hilltop of a former medieval fortress from the 13th century. The structure has a square floor plan with a central circular hall and combines living spaces with agricultural facilities like stables and a barn.

Venetian nobleman Vettor Pisani commissioned architect Vincenzo Scamozzi to design this villa in 1574, with completion occurring over the next two years. The building rose on a site that once held military importance.

The central hall features a dome held up by eight ribs, drawing from Roman building methods. This design creates a distinctive space that catches your attention as soon as you step inside.

Access to the grounds follows the natural slopes, making the hilltop location immediately clear. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes and prepare for changing conditions depending on the season.

Light filters through a marble grate in the dome, casting a special glow throughout the circular hall. The facades align with the four cardinal directions, revealing the careful planning of the site.
