Federation of Damanhur, Religious community in Chiusella Valley, Italy.
The Federation of Damanhur is a religious community in the Chiusella Valley of the Piedmont region, about 50 kilometers north of Turin. The site spreads across land where several autonomous settlements have developed, each managing its own resources while sharing common spiritual principles.
Oberto Airaudi founded the community in 1975 with 12 companions, choosing the name of an ancient Egyptian city dedicated to the god Horus. Construction of the underground temples began shortly after and continued for decades, carried out by hand by members.
The community maintains its own constitution, currency system called Credito, and four membership categories determining residents' involvement and resource-sharing levels.
Guided tours through the five-story underground temple complex known as the Temples of Humankind show chambers decorated with spiritual murals and mosaics. Access is by appointment only, as the site remains in active use by the community.
Members participate in specialized spiritual paths including the Way of the Oracle, the Way of the Monk, and the Way of Health through four main organizational bodies.
