Castello della Pietra

Castello della Pietra is a medieval fortress in Vobbia built upon two natural rock spurs that form its foundations. The structure overlooks the Vobbia stream valley from a strategic elevated position.

The della Pietra family controlled the fortress until 1518, when official records show ownership transferred to the Adorno family in the Republic of Genoa. This shift in power marked a significant change in local governance.

The central hall now hosts theatrical performances, concerts, and exhibitions that showcase regional artistic works. Today it serves as an active cultural venue for the local community.

The fortress is accessible year-round, with the best conditions between spring and autumn when weather is stable. Visitors should wear sturdy shoes, as the approach involves stone paths and steep terrain.

Two separate water systems were carved directly into the rock and channeled rainwater from the roofs through elaborate stone passages. This engineering solution demonstrates how cleverly inhabitants managed resources in this elevated location.
