Architect Achille Sfondrini designed the building in 1880 as Teatro Costanzi with a focus on acoustics. The house later changed its name and became a major venue for Italian music theater.

The house displays its name in the tradition of Italian opera culture, focusing on works by Verdi and Puccini. Visitors regularly experience performances with Italian singers who maintain international standards.

The theater sits near Repubblica metro station in the city center and offers around 2200 seats across several levels. Visitors should expect security checks at the entrance and allow time to find their seats.

During summer months, the company moves its performances outdoors to the ancient Baths of Caracalla. There, the ensemble performs in front of Roman ruins under open skies.
