Santa Margherita Maria Alacoque, Catholic church in Torrenova district, Rome, Italy
Santa Margherita Maria Alacoque is a church building in the Torrenova district with modern design and rectangular layout. The structure is crowned by a gabled roof and its exterior walls are covered with blue tiles.
The building was constructed in the early 1950s as a new church for this part of Rome. Between 2000 and 2005 it underwent major renewal and modernization under architect Italo Rota.
The church houses a sculpture titled Cristo morto e risorto created by artist Stefano Pierotti. Some furnishings inside were specially made for a major event in 2000.
Four grey columns mark the prayer space and help visitors understand the layout inside. The sloped floor with colored bands shows different zones and makes it easy to see how the space is used.
The bell tower is a freestanding steel structure that stands separately from the main building. This design showcases the modern style of church architecture from that era.
