Monte delle Rose

Monte delle Rose is a mountain summit in Agrigento Province that rises to about 1,436 meters (4,711 feet). The peak is part of the broader mountain system that characterizes Sicily's interior landscape.

The mountain served as a strategic watchtower during ancient and medieval times to monitor the surrounding territory. Its elevated position made it a key location for controlling routes and settlements across the region.

Local shepherds maintain traditional practices on Monte delle Rose slopes, continuing centuries-old methods of cheese production and livestock management.

Several hiking trails lead to the summit, with the main route starting from Palazzo Adriano and taking about four hours to reach the top. The paths can be steep and demanding, so good fitness is helpful, especially during warmer months.

The mountain contains numerous natural springs that supply water to surrounding communities through an extensive network of ancient aqueducts. These water systems were built centuries ago and remain vital to local water supplies today.
