Funtana Coberta, Nuragic holy well in Ballao, Italy
The limestone structure extends 10.60 meters in length and contains a rectangular vestibule leading to an underground chamber with twelve steps.
Archaeological excavations conducted in 1918 by Antonio Taramelli and in 1994 by Maria Rosaria Manunza revealed artifacts dating from 1200 to 850 BC.
The temple structure reflects water worship practices of Nuragic civilization, featuring a stepped attic design and specific architectural elements for ceremonial purposes.
The archaeological site stands three kilometers from Ballao village in a green valley, with preserved original flooring in the atrium section.
The underground tholos structure incorporates squared limestone blocks of consistent thickness, forming two asymmetrical wings that connect to the central well.
