Sant'Agnese fuori le mura, Minor basilica in Via Nomentana, Rome, Italy
The church features three naves divided by fourteen ancient columns with Corinthian capitals and contains important seventh-century Byzantine mosaics in the apse.
The basilica was constructed in 324 under Constantine's daughter Constance above a cemetery complex containing the tomb of Saint Agnes, a young martyr.
The apsidal mosaic depicts Saint Agnes wearing imperial robes on a golden background, accompanied by representations of Popes Symmachus and Honorius I.
The basilica and its catacombs open Thursday through Saturday from 9:00 to 12:00 and 15:00 to 18:00, with Sunday afternoons from 15:00 to 18:00.
Every January 21, two lambs receive a blessing at the basilica, and their wool is later woven to create the pallium for new metropolitan archbishops.
