The marble facade features three Renaissance portals and a triangular tympanum topped by bronze statues of Saint George and two angels.
The church stands on the ruins of an imperial palace from Roman times, with initial construction by Bishop San Natale in 740.
The Chapel of the Passion contains frescoes by Bernardino Luini from 1516, along with a panel of San Gerolamo by Gaudenzio Ferrari from 1530.
The church building combines Italian Baroque and Neoclassical architectural elements following renovations across multiple centuries.
The nineteenth-century modifications added a square bell tower and a neoclassical dome designed by architect Parrocchetti.
