Giants' grave of Su Mont'e s'Abe

Giants' grave of Su Mont'e s'Abe, Bronze Age passage grave in Olbia, Italy.

The Giants' grave of Su Mont'e s'Abe is a Bronze Age megalithic structure with an elongated burial chamber built from large stone slabs. The site was expanded over time with additional architectural features including a front forecourt area and a central stone marker.

The structure began as a burial chamber in the Bonnanaro culture and was later transformed during the Nuragic period around 1600 BC. This transformation shows how burial practices and architectural styles changed as different cultures inhabited the same area.

The tomb reflects how Nuragic communities honored their dead through collective burial practices in shared burial grounds. This way of honoring the deceased shows how important family and community bonds were in ancient Sardinian society.

The site is located near Olbia and can be reached on foot, with clear paths leading to the burial structure. Visitors should expect outdoor conditions and can explore the grounds freely, where the ancient stones still form the visible remains today.

The site was restored in the 1960s and still shows the original stone construction clearly visible today. This restoration work helped preserve this prehistoric monument so that visitors can see how it actually looked thousands of years ago.
