Cave di Fantiscritti, Marble quarry in Carrara, Italy
The Cave di Fantiscritti consists of extensive tunnels and galleries carved into white marble mountains, reaching an elevation of 630 meters in the Apuan Alps.
The quarry features a Roman bas-relief from the 3rd century AD depicting three deities, which gave the site its name and reflects its ancient marble extraction heritage.
The quarry maintains traditional marble extraction methods while supporting local artisans who transform the stone into sculptures and architectural elements for global distribution.
Visitors can experience 40-minute guided tours through the Ravaccione 84 gallery by minibus or participate in 4WD excursions through the open-cast quarry sections.
The quarry gained international recognition as a filming location for the James Bond movie Quantum of Solace, while remaining an active industrial marble extraction site.
