Gran Madre di Dio, Neoclassical church in Rome, Italy

The Gran Madre di Dio features a Greek cross plan with a large dome resting on an octagonal drum and two small lateral bell towers.

Pope Pius XI commissioned the construction of this church in 1931 to commemorate the 1,500th anniversary of the Council of Ephesus.

The main entrance displays a triangular pediment containing Pope Pius XI's coat of arms, supported by columns with Corinthian capitals.

The church building stands at Via Cassia 1 in Rome and serves as a cardinal titular church under the Roman Catholic denomination.

Eight large rectangular windows circle the octagonal drum of the church, while the apse contains five arched windows and a fresco by Federico Morgante.
