Monte d'Accoddi, Pre-Nuragic archaeological site in Sassari, Italy

The Monte d'Accoddi features a limestone step pyramid measuring 36 meters by 29 meters, rising approximately 10 meters above ground level.

The initial structure, built between 4000 and 3650 BC by the Ozieri culture, consisted of a 27-meter square platform that served as a ceremonial center.

Archaeological excavations revealed evidence of animal sacrifices, including remains of sheep, cattle, and swine from the chalcolithic Abealzu-Filigosa period.

The site opens Tuesday through Sunday from 9:00 to 18:00 during summer months and 9:00 to 14:00 in winter, with an entrance fee of 3 euros.

The monument represents the only known example of a ziggurat-style structure in Europe, displaying architectural elements similar to Mesopotamian temples.
