Mulinaccio di Scandicci, Historic watermill in San Vincenzo a Torri, Scandicci, Italy
Mulinaccio di Scandicci is a three-story stone watermill with multiple arches positioned near a natural water source in the Tuscan countryside. The structure displays the architectural features typical of mills from this region, with its distinctive stone construction and water channels.
The mill was initially constructed as a dam on the Masseto Borro in 1634 and developed into a working mill by 1653. After roughly a century of operation, it ceased functioning in 1736.
The mill complex represents traditional Tuscan agricultural engineering, demonstrating historical grain processing methods that supported local food production.
To reach this site, follow the SP12 road past the Cantine Borghi-Vino e Olio factory and then take a walking path through vineyards to arrive at the structure. The route passes through rural terrain, so comfortable shoes and time for a leisurely walk are recommended.
Two waterfalls cascade through the remaining stone arches of the ruins, while vegetation covers the ancient walls in a layered growth pattern. This interplay between flowing water, weathered stone, and reclaimed nature creates an ever-changing scene that shifts with the seasons and water flow.
