Museo archeologico e d'arte della Maremma

The museum spans three floors with forty rooms in the former Palazzo del Tribunale, presenting archaeological discoveries and artistic works from prehistoric times through modern era.

Giovanni Chelli established this institution in 1860 as part of the Chelliana Library, and in 1955 it became the Museo civico archeologico di Grosseto.

The collection includes Etruscan urns from Volterra, Roman statues from the 2nd century, and medieval artworks by Sienese painters active in the Maremma region.

Educational programs include interactive workshops for schools, while professional archaeologists and art historians conduct guided tours in Italian and English languages.

The museum displays a reconstructed African shipwreck from Giglio Porto dating to the 3rd century AD, complete with its original cargo of oil amphorae.
