The church stands on a hill next to the Bût stream with a single nave structure and three altars, featuring a Romanesque mullioned window.
The church was commissioned in 1312 by the Patriarch of Aquileia Ottobuono di Razzi, replacing an earlier cathedral destroyed by Avars in the 8th century.
The interior contains a Renaissance wooden altarpiece of St Anthony the Abbot with Baroque elements and a two-meter wooden Christ from 1550.
The church maintains regular opening hours and serves as the primary religious building in the Bût Valley, hosting numerous classical music concerts.
During Ascension Day, the church hosts the ritual of 'Kissing of the Crosses' where surrounding parishes bring their crosses to honor the mother church.
