San Francesco, Gothic and Baroque church in Città di Castello, Italy.

The San Francesco church exhibits a simple brick exterior facade that contrasts with detailed interior decorations, including stucco work and ceiling medallions.

Originally consecrated in 1291, the church underwent extensive reconstruction between 1707 and 1727, transforming its structure into the current Baroque style.

The Vitelli chapel, designed by Giorgio Vasari in 1550, contains his large canvas painting of the Coronation of the Virgin from 1563.

The church maintains its status as an Italian national heritage site and remains open for regular Catholic worship services in Città di Castello.

The church once housed Raphael's Marriage of the Virgin painting from 1504, which was taken by Napoleonic troops in 1798.
