San Felice church

San Felice church is a Gothic building in the Oltrarno neighborhood of Florence with a single nave and pointed arch windows set into the walls. The interior space is lined with multiple altars positioned along both sides of the sanctuary.

This church was founded in 1066 and underwent major reconstruction during the 14th century to adopt its Gothic character. Michelozzo designed the facade in 1457, giving it the appearance visitors see today.

The church displays multiple artistic treasures, including a 1308 crucifix attributed to Giotto and a Last Supper fresco by Matteo Rosselli from 1614.

The church is open during weekday hours split into two time windows in the morning and afternoon for visitor access. Weekend hours differ from weekday schedules, so it is worth checking current opening times before planning your visit.

In 1439, the interior space was converted into a stage for a performance during an Annunciation feast, with the roof structure used to create special theatrical effects. This demonstrates how the building served purposes beyond worship, functioning as a venue for artistic expression.
