Alpe Devero

Alpe Devero is a mountain pasture in the Lepontine Alps featuring open meadows, numerous waterfalls, and extensive larch forests at elevations between 1600 and 3553 meters. The area is well-organized with marked hiking trails that guide visitors through the landscape.

Archaeological discoveries at the Arbora Pass show that people lived in this mountain region thousands of years ago and practiced livestock herding. These early traces suggest that Alpine farming has deep roots in this landscape.

The traditional wooden huts and stone buildings scattered across the pasture show how shepherds and farmers have lived and worked here for centuries. You can still see locals moving their herds and using time-honored methods in daily life.

Access to the area is through well-marked hiking trails, and information points are located throughout. Bring sturdy footwear and weather-resistant clothing, as mountain conditions can change quickly at this elevation.

The area is home to around 320 plant species, with roughly one-fifth of them being rare types found only here or in few other mountain regions. This diversity is shaped by different elevation zones and the lasting effects of ancient glacial movements.
