Helsenhorn

The Helsenhorn is an Alpine summit rising to 3,272 meters as part of the Monte Leone massif in the Lepontine Alps. This mountain straddles the border between Switzerland and Italy, making it a notable landmark in the region.

Johann Jakob Weilenmann completed the first recorded solo ascent in 1863, marking an important milestone in mountaineering. This early climb was part of growing exploration efforts in the region by Alpine adventurers.

The mountain stands at the intersection of Swiss and Italian territories, representing a natural boundary between these two Alpine nations.

Multiple routes lead to the summit, with the Rifugio Arona at 1,758 meters offering shelter along the way. Climbers should come prepared with Alpine experience and proper mountain gear.

The Helsengletscher adorns the western flank with flowing ice, while the eastern side drops steeply above Kriegalp Pass. These contrasting faces reveal different Alpine landscapes within a short distance.
