Borgo Dora, Historic district in Turin, Italy.
Borgo Dora is a neighborhood in the northern part of Turin, running along the Dora Riparia river. Its streets are narrow, its buildings come from different periods, and small bars, shops, and workshops sit alongside residential blocks.
In the 19th century, factories and workshops settled along the Dora Riparia, using the river as a source of energy. As industry declined through the 20th century, the area gradually shifted toward housing and cultural use.
The Balon flea market takes place every Saturday in the heart of the neighborhood, drawing collectors, dealers, and curious visitors from across the city. Once a month it expands into the Gran Balon, a larger gathering that attracts antique sellers from across northern Italy.
The neighborhood is easy to explore on foot, as most points of interest are close to one another. Saturday mornings draw large crowds to the market area, so arriving early gives you more room to move around.
A former military barracks complex, known as the Caserma Cavalli, was converted into a cultural center that houses a peace center and exhibition spaces. The building still retains much of its original structure, making the contrast between its past and present use easy to read.
