Basilica di San Quirino

Basilica di San Quirino, Renaissance church in Correggio, Italy

The Basilica di San Quirino is a church building featuring three naves divided by twelve side chapels that create a structured interior layout. The classical facade was completed in 1782 and is flanked by a tower on the left side.

Construction began in 1516 under Cardinal Francesco Alidosi with the intention of creating an important religious building. The structure was consecrated by Bishop Giovanni Maria Colonna in 1525, marking the completion of a significant building phase.

The interior displays works by renowned artists such as Domenico Fetti and Girolamo Donnini who shaped the religious atmosphere with their paintings. The large organ from 1612 dominates the choir area and continues to fill the space with music during services.

The building is located in central Correggio and is easy to find when walking through the city center. Visitors should be aware that regular services take place, which may affect access to certain areas at specific times.

The treasury holds rare objects, including a 15th-century ivory chest from the renowned Embriachi workshop. A terracotta figure of the Madonna attributed to Desiderio da Settignano demonstrates the artistic quality of this private collection.
