Palazzo dei Principi, Renaissance palace in Correggio, Italy.
Palazzo dei Principi is a Renaissance residence in Correggio with a terracotta facade, marble pilasters, and decorated shields displaying the da Correggio family arms. The building combines living quarters with exhibition and archive spaces connected through a central hall accessible via the main southern staircase.
The residence was built between the late 15th century and 1508, initially serving as the home of Francesca of Brandenburg. It later became the seat of Estense government offices and remained a center of power for the ruling family.
Today it houses a museum with local art collections and a library preserving historical documents and ancient manuscripts. These institutions have transformed the former residence into a center for knowledge and artistic appreciation.
Access to the noble floors is through the main southern staircase, which leads to a central hall. From there, exhibition and archive spaces are easily reached and explored.
Two historical wells stand in the courtyard, including an original gothic-style structure and one built in 1507 that was moved from Piazza delle Erbe. These water sources reveal how practical family needs were woven into the building's design.
