Parco Fluviale dell'Alta Val d'Elsa

Parco Fluviale dell'Alta Val d'Elsa is a protected area following the Elsa River with steep banks, waterfalls, and wooden walkways built between the rocks. The landscape includes different formations, from dense vegetation to open water stretches where the river flows over natural obstacles.

This area was known since ancient times and used by the Romans for its resources. In the 11th century, water structures were built here to direct river flow toward the city.

The thermal springs in this area drew people seeking their healing properties in ancient times and continue to be visited today. Walkers passing through can still discover these natural warm waters as part of their journey along the river.

A marked trail runs along the river with wooden passages and rest spots for breaks. Visitors should wear sturdy footwear as the path crosses rocky areas and wet sections.

At one location the river creates a notable waterfall that forms a natural pool. This body of water is home to rare species like the southern crested newt.
