Ascoli Piceno Baptistery

The octagonal baptistery features a square base constructed with travertine blocks and contains three baptismal fonts within its geometric interior design.

Archaeological findings indicate the structure was initially a temple dedicated to Hercules before its transformation into a Christian baptistery during the sixth century.

The building structure incorporates mathematical symbolism where the square base represents earth while the octagonal upper section reflects Christian baptismal meanings.

The baptistery opens daily from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with guided tours available through the tourist office located in Piazza Arringo.

Inside the baptistery, a fifth-century circular baptismal pool remains preserved beneath the cupola's oculus, accompanied by a fourteenth-century font on a twisted column.
