Palazzo del Governo, Government palace in Ascoli Piceno, Italy
Palazzo del Governo spans the eastern side of Piazza Fausto Simonetti and features a travertine facade decorated with sculptural figures representing local rivers. The building houses the Prefecture and Provincial Administration offices that serve the local community.
Construction began in the early 1700s and was completed in 1797, with significant modifications around 1902 by engineers Ugo Cantalamessa and Umberto Pierpaoli. These renovations shaped the building's appearance as it stands today.
The provincial council room displays works by Domenico Ferri showing the fertility of the Piceni land and regional craft traditions.
The building is easy to spot from outside and located directly on the main square, making it impossible to miss during a walk through Ascoli Piceno. The public offices inside are accessible during business hours, though the spaces are primarily intended for administrative work.
A festival hall on the second floor was decorated by Adolfo De Carolis with colorful artworks depicting themes of Piceni territory. This artistic decoration often goes unnoticed by visitors who only view the building from outside.
