Baptistery of San Giovanni ad Fontes

The brick building follows a cross plan with an octagonal center section topped by a dome, measuring 16 meters east to west and 13 meters high.

The structure contains original brickwork from the 5th-6th centuries and features a baptismal font dating back to the 7th-8th centuries, while the dome was added in the 10th century.

The baptistery stands as an example of Romanesque-Lombard architecture and forms part of the Santa Maria Maggiore religious complex, reflecting medieval Christian practices.

Access to the baptistery requires coordination with visits to Santa Maria Maggiore church, which opens only during weekends from April through November.

The building's interior features two distinct entrance portals and maintains its original plastered walls, with the central space positioned slightly below street level.
