Becchi della Tribolazione, Mountain summit in Gran Paradiso National Park, Italy
Becchi della Tribolazione is a mountain group in the Graian Alps with four distinct granite peaks, the southern one reaching about 3360 meters (11023 ft). The rock walls are characteristically steep and fractured, giving the massif its technical complexity.
The massif was first summited in 1875 when a group of climbers reached the southern peak. This early ascent marked the beginning of modern exploration of this mountain area.
The name means Peaks of Tribulation and reflects how local climbers perceive the steep rock faces that define this place. Visitors today notice how this name captures the demanding character of the terrain.
Access begins at Teleccio Lake via Piantonetto Valley, and most visitors plan multi-day expeditions with overnight stays. Rifugio Pontese at about 2200 meters (7218 ft) serves as a crucial rest point and shelter for mountaineers.
Between the central and southern peaks lies an unnamed formation known locally to climbers as La Sagoma, which does not appear on official maps. This hidden feature remains a local secret among experienced mountaineers.
