Castello di Francavilla Fontana

The rectangular castle features angular towers, a baroque loggia with four arches, carved stone decorations, and a protective moat surrounding its perimeter.

Giovanni Antonio Orsini del Balzo constructed the initial fortification in 1450, starting with a square tower encircled by walls and a defensive moat.

The castle contains a collection of historical portraits depicting the Imperiali princes and a ceremonial hall with a family crest adorned fireplace.

Located at via Municipio, the castle provides wheelchair access and currently serves as the municipal headquarters of Francavilla Fontana.

The castle housed a renowned European library in the early 1700s, established by Cardinal Renato Imperiali and cataloged by Monsignor Giusto Fontanini in 1711.
