Castello di Malgrà, Castle and military museum in Rivarolo Canavese, Italy.

Castello di Malgrà is a castle in Rivarolo Canavese featuring an interior courtyard with a crenellated tower and a porch adorned with frescoes from the 1400s. Inside, you will find displays dedicated to military history and local industrial heritage spread across its restored rooms.

The castle was built in 1333 by the Counts of San Martino as a military stronghold and gradually transformed into a noble residence during the 1300s. This shift from fortress to family home marked a turning point when the building's role changed from defense to display of wealth and status.

The building played a central role in local gatherings where families and community leaders met for important occasions. Walking through its halls, you can still feel the spaces were meant for hosting celebrations that shaped the region's social bonds.

The castle is open to visitors every Sunday from May through October between 3 PM and 7 PM, with weekday tours available if you arrange in advance. It is a good idea to contact ahead if you plan to visit on a weekday, since tours are limited to small groups.

In the late 1800s, Countess Natalia Francesetti commissioned extensive renovations and hired architects Alfredo d'Andrade and Carlo Nigra to modernize the structure. These renovations saved the building from decay and gave it much of its present-day appearance.
