Statue of Giordano Bruno, Bronze memorial statue in Campo de' Fiori, Rome, Italy
The bronze statue depicts philosopher Giordano Bruno standing with his hands crossed over a closed book, wearing a hooded cloak and facing forward.
Erected in 1889 by sculptor Ettore Ferrari, the monument marks the exact location where the Catholic Church executed Giordano Bruno by burning in 1600.
The statue includes eight bronze medallions on its granite base depicting portraits of philosophers who challenged ecclesiastical authority throughout history.
The monument stands at the center of Campo de' Fiori market square and provides limited access for visitors using wheelchairs.
During the statue's inauguration, Pope Leo XIII spent the entire day fasting and kneeling before Saint Peter's statue in protest.
