Castello Visconteo

Castello Visconteo is a medieval fortress in Pagazzano featuring three preserved towers on its northern side. Brick walls and battlements surround the main courtyard at the center of the structure.

The fortress was first documented in 1186 and underwent major transformation between 1450 and 1475 under the Visconti family. This extensive renovation reshaped the earlier 14th-century fortification into its current form.

The fortress displays exhibits about rural Italian traditions managed by the Gruppo della Civiltà Contadina organization. Visitors can see how people lived and worked in the countryside through collections of everyday objects and tools.

A dry moat roughly 12 meters wide encircles the fortress and was connected to the Brembilla canal through a sluice gate system. This allowed defenders to control water flow for protection when needed.
